I’m typically on the look-out for creative and fun ways to enrich my children’s learning experience. One of the best perks of homeschooling, is that we don’t have to stick to just the traditional textbook learning experience. Today I’m sharing some tips and a few resources to Using YouTube for your Homeschool.
Like this one I recently stumbled upon
Socratica Studios (click HERE)
They are currently going through series of US State History videos. Each video is a breakdown of the history of each state. How cool is that?! Studying US History? Add this to your lesson plan! They are visual, engaging, and fun to watch! They are still building their library of states, but so far – I’m loving them.
They also have videos on other subjects, such as math, science, and arts and humanities

You can search for anything on YouTube, just like you would on Google. Over Christmas break we looked up the Nutcracker and found a FULL video with the whole performance!!!
Some videos that have helped us in our homeschool
- Long Division ~ A great Math Channel by the way, I recommend subscribing to it and using them with your children, especially if they are visual learners!
- Photosynthesis ~ This channel is all about simple science
With simple search terms like: “how to long divide” or “what is photosynghesis” you will get loads of results.
YouTube, just like Google, will produce the MOST watched, and bet rated videos first. I typically check those out, but If I find them unfitting – I then just work my way down the list.
Worried about your kids being on YouTube?
You can create playlists and add any video to those playlists. You can make them public, for others to see – or you can make them private so that only you can see them. Then click play and all the videos in that playlist will play in order.
